Salmon Teriyaki
by
Salmon teriyaki is a delicious and relatively simple dish to make. Here's a recipe for you:
Ingredients:
- 2 salmon fillets (about 6 oz each)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)
- 1 tablespoon sake (Japanese rice wine) or dry white wine
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Sliced green onions (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Prepare the sauce:
- In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake (or white wine), brown sugar, garlic, and ginger. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar is dissolved. Simmer for about 3-5 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the salmon:
- Pat dry the salmon fillets with paper towels. This helps the salmon to sear nicely.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook the salmon:
- Place the salmon fillets in the skillet, skin side down if they have skin. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom is nicely seared and golden brown.
- Add the sauce:
- Carefully flip the salmon fillets. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the salmon. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, spooning the sauce over the fillets occasionally, until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Serve:
- Transfer the salmon fillets to serving plates. Spoon some of the teriyaki sauce over each fillet.
- Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions.
- Enjoy:
- Serve your salmon teriyaki hot, ideally with steamed rice and your favorite vegetables.
Notes:
- Adjust the cooking time depending on the thickness of your salmon fillets. Thicker fillets may need a bit longer to cook through.
- You can also marinate the salmon in some of the teriyaki sauce before cooking for extra flavor.
- Feel free to customize with additional vegetables like steamed broccoli or bok choy on the side.
This recipe should give you flavorful and tender salmon with a delicious teriyaki glaze. Enjoy!
